I just finished reading the latest release from Featherproof Books. This Will Go Down on Your Permanent Record is Chicago emigre Susannah Felts'debut novel about a budding teenage photographer trying to find her artistic identity in Nashville, TN. She becomes friends with the troubled girl next door, who moves in with her family, and drama ensues. It's a heartwrenching and humorous coming-of-age story that's highly recommended for fans of books like Joe Meno's Hairstyles of the Damned, Blake Nelson's Girl or Tales of a Punk Rock Nothing.

I just finished Jesus' Son, by Denis Johnson. It was a collection of very well written short stories, and I recommend it to anyone who's a fan of drugs or Kerouac (or both) and finds themselves on the el a lot with nothing to read by the Redeye.
